I'm quite enjoying reading Norwegian Wood by . Unlike most of my previous reads I'm taking my time to let the scenarios and feels sink in. Doesn't look like I'll make it through the book until that book club's meeting, but I don't really care.

@wasamasa Is it good? I've only read A Hardboiled Wonderland And The End of the World and that was really weird, very oneiric.

@JordiGH Had to look that word up. It isn't, but the only thing I can compare it against is 1Q84 which is far more magical and fantasy-like. Norwegian Wood reads quite autobiographical and episodic which I like. It's also smutty.

@wasamasa @JordiGH I haven't read Hardboiled Wonderland or 1Q84 but can confirm. As far as plot it's pretty different from the typical Murakami. More down to earth, no real magic. But it has a similar dreamlike quality and familiar themes. Fate, memory, weird sex.

According to the translator afterword, when the book first came out his fanbase at the time thought he was selling out and turning to the kind of autobiographical romance that was popular at the time. But now it's kind of a classic.

@crlf @wasamasa So, is it based on the Beatles song? Or alludes to it?
