Before Linus, there was Dijkstra. The norm of equating technically proficiency with hostile arrogance has been part of CS since the start. Sad thing is, there are devs out there who feel, deep down, that you lose technical merit when you go soft. It’s such an unhealthy mindset.

Programming is frustrating, but it is for all of us. Why add onto that frustration by berating your colleagues?

@ilovecomputers I do feel for Linus *a little bit*. Most of that hostility was not created from ego but from massive corporations and governments trying to sneak code commits into Linux that would pervert his life's work

@noicebrewery yeah, I guess lashing out on a faceless entity like a Corp and govt is acceptable, but I’m def talking about his abrasive attitude to regular contributors
