No, Pleroma isn't the solution to everything, everyone.
@hector What niu resource usage is :
- Processing of video/gif/images to reduce disk space / reduce client cpu usage : nothing solved by Pleroma on this point afaik
- Database disk usage : @ivesen have almost 1/2 of my database size while running on an almost-alone instance for less time, I'm a bit worried about Pleroma's way of handling data.
- Ram usage : meh, not an issue with all thoses 2GB/3€ hosts everywhere now.
- Stack size : okay, Pleroma have a + here, only 2 stacks vs 4 for masto
@hector @ivesen
This is getting silly, no this isn't unneeded, it's not because you can handle this that everyone can.
Actually the fact that Pleroma isn't doing this is a big no no for me, you're wasting disk space, bandwith, and other instance disk space, bandwith, and people bandwith, cpu and ability to display the content (yeah, there is some browsers out there called safari or edge that don't know wtf is a WebM or how to listen to an Opus stream)
@xj @ivesen @hector agree, but also less friendly for other instances running on potatoes when a post goes viral (but can be corrected with some proxy ofc)
Don't know how PostgreSQL is handling it tbh, but the facts are here >_>
folding@home ? If this is what I think, Masto recently introduced some processing on the webclient (if you remember the posts with big black squares) and only process image when they are too larges, but still it do cost something.
@Technowix Someone said that? I'm interested about the context of your remark. As you prob know, I like Pleroma, but I've never heard anyone say that it solves any problems -- except low memory ^_^
@wim_v12e look at the replies on the main post~
@Technowix Sorry, I don't understand. I guess I can't see some of the replies because the ones I can see don't say anything like that.
Nevermind, it's not important.
@wim_v12e you could still open the post in a web page from niu rather than from octodon's webui if you want o:
@Technowix Right, thanks for the suggestion. I see the context now. And I agree, FWIW :)
@Technowix install pleroma to fix your life
