if a website says "please turn off adblock" i just leave the website
@SarcasmKid curl the website
@SarcasmKid "please turn off adblock"
//uses adblock to hide popup element
@SarcasmKid
i've noticed i can Pocket it immediately, before the disable adblock message pops up.
@SarcasmKid First I try right-clicking the "turn off your ad blocker" message and add it to the block list. Because it's funny.
Then I repeat until I can see the "content". But why stop there?
Keep blocking until there's nothing left but a pristine white limitless void. No ads, no nags, no javascript, no thoughts.
Satori.
Then I leave it that way so if I accidentally click on another link to that site, I'm instantly enlightened.
It really changed my appreciation for Forbes.
I write them an email.
"I whitelist sites where all 3 are true:
* 1st party hosted
* non-active content
* static
"
@SarcasmKid every single time.
@SarcasmKid I agree. I would rather leave adblock intact than to read whatever content they had.
@SarcasmKid If it's a polite request that can be ignored, I'll continue visiting. If the site has genuine value, I might even donate.
I never turn off adblock unless I'm whitelisting a non-ad popup I need for work :P
@SarcasmKid I got that message when I didn't use adblock.
@SarcasmKid Definitely not as bad as completely hiding the page though
