*see everyone struggling with NA Wasabi*

*Chill alone on his EU cluster, working well for now*

😏

@Miaourt don't mind weeaboo.space just chilling here on our Qnap TS-963X NAS

@quad When my parent house will be fiber-optic friendly I will create an OpenIO cluster I guess, this will allow me to enable tiering and have like most recent stuffo n a vps, and colder stuff on a in-house nas uwu

@Miaourt I just run my whole VM on the NAS. I can tier on the block level, or I can setup both SSD and HDD disks for the VM manually. But I haven't bothered to do either yet.

@quad Niu quite need more juice than a nas could deliver tho xD

@Miaourt really? This box does up to 40TB HDD + 6TB SSD though.

@quad I mean cpu power, or you simply meant storing media on it

Also wuw big boi

@Miaourt Has a Quad-core AMD CPU.

If you're only familiar with the "as cheap as possible per drive bay" NAS units sold to consumers with ARM chips it's no wonder you think all NAS units perform like garbage.

Higher-end NAS units are basically just storage serves.

@quad I can that a storage server then lol

for me "NAS" just have enough power to make the data avaible to the network at full speed, and maybe do data related ops like encryption/raid/maintenance stuff x')

"Network Attached Storage"

@Miaourt NAS have a bad rep because people buy the cheap $50-100 junk and go "THE $100 NAS WAS GARBAGE SO I BUILT A $300 STORAGE SERVER INSTEAD"

If they just bought a $300 NAS in the first place, comparison would've been a lot closer.

For Qnap, just don't buy anything listed as Home. Except maybe a few exceptions in the "Home - High-end" section: https://www.qnap.com/en/product/

because home nas units are basically just designed to backup your photos and videos.
