since this where the newbies are looking. Hi, welcome. Here's a few things you should probably know.

-Don't call the network 'Mastodon'. A better term is the 'Fediverse'. Mastodon instances are the most common, but instances of GNU social, pleroma, and others are part of the fediverse.

-The fediverse is decentralized. There are cultural differences. Dont assume each instance has the same rules and ideals, cause some will disagree with you.

@varsh010 about the fediverse? Mastodon is server software. You run that software to create an instance, where people can sign up and make posts and follow each other. Those instances can communicate with each other, sharing posts etc, creating a network. That network of instances is called the fediverse.

Calling the whole network 'Mastodon' is wrong because there are instances that aren't running Mastodon. Mastodon isn't even the first fediverse software.

Does that make sense?
