Getting thoughts from my shower out on paper before I head out. This is for a MOBA I haven't made, but the gist of the world is: Generic Fantasy Land becomes the Weird Wild West within a decade of spaceships crash-landing and depositing their sci-fi crew onto the locals.
Character name: Rough & Rowdy.
Rough and Rowdy are a husband-wife pair hero. They crash-landed a decade before the main genre departure point, and went to ground - by becoming bandits.
The two influences are:
1) Straight couples that are so rebelliously wholesome that they, compared to normal media, somehow feel like queer representation: Morticia & Gomez, Jesse & James, Bunnie & Antoine.
2) Larger than life wild-west gangsters: Bonnie & Clyde, Frank & Annie Oakley.
Rough is a tall, lanky man, with red hair, freckles, and an immaculate Van Dyke beard. He wears a sleeveless vest that bares his arms and proper slacks.
Rowdy is a shorter woman, of mixed heritage, with darker hair and complexion, and also with freckles. She wears an Anne Oakley-style prairie bonnet and a magnificent hat.
Their signature weapon is split between them: The Man-Portable Ballista. Carefully concealed to be a fantastic invention rather than outworld tech, the Ballista is a long-ranged weapon that fires at high damage but a low rate of fire.
When Rough & Rowdy join, one of them at random is chosen to be the Shooter. The other becomes the Brawler.
As the Brawler, Rough is methodical and scientific, squaring up in a boxer's stance, using jabs, hooks, and crosses. However, as the Shooter, he becomes wild, firing from the hip and almost prancing with the Ballista.
As the Brawler, Rowdy is wild, using a weighted parasol to swing, uppercut, and give overhead smashes. As the Shooter, though, she becomes cautious, lining up her every shot with precision.
Rough and Rowdy's passive is I'll Be There. When one gets knocked out, the other gains increasing lock resistance and immediately paths back to base. If they make it to the base, recouperation speed is doubled. If they get ganked on the way there, they award full normal experience and bounty.
Their self-boost [SHIFT] is Trade Ya! Eight second cooldown. The Shooter jumps up in the air to throw the Man-Portable Ballista to the Brawler, while the Brawler jumps up to catch it, giving them both a second of immunity.
Their innate bonuses swap, as well. The Shooter gains attack range, lock resistance, damage, and a lowest-HP attack preference, while the Brawler gains attack speed, evasion, movement speed, and a nearest-foe attack preference.
Their secondary attack [M2] has two effects, depending on mouse location. If off an enemy, it changes the mouse cursor from a fist icon (which controls the Brawler independenty) to a target icon (which controls the Shooter independently).
If on a foe, the target represented by the icon attacks the target.
If alt-secondary is clcked, that allows one of the two to be moved.
Their first power [Q] is Loose Cannon (Rough) / Big Shot (Rowdy). The Shooter throws (Rough) or fires (Rowdy) a stick of dynamite at an area, dealing heavy damage in a small radius and modest damage in a large radius.
Their second power [E] is Fancy Fisticuffs (Rough) / Preilous Parasol (Rowdy). The Brawler dashes to a target and deals a blow that does modest knockback, followed by modest stun, followed by modest slow.
Their finisher [F] is Crossover, in which the Shooter and the Brawler trade places, stunning between them, after which the Shooter fires a bunch of dynamite at the center point of their path.
Gameplay-wise, Rough & Rowdy are a character that provides strong area control and waveclear, but without the automatic pushing abilities - you have to swap Rough & Rowdy around carefully to push, without risking losing control.
Fandom-wise, Rough & Rowdy are a rarity in gaming: a happy, non-toxic, middle-aged straight couple.
In total, you have a pairing that is based on give and take and mutual awareness not only in the lore, but mechanically as well.
